We have vacancies on our board oversight committee

Friday, November, 20th, 2020 in Credit Union News

Enniscorthy Credit Union would not be able to function without volunteers from the membership serving on our Board and Board Oversight Committee.

We are legally required to have both in place to oversee the work of the credit union on behalf of our members. It is very important that we have a panel of members who are willing to volunteer for at least two to three years to serve on either.

We are currently seeking applications from individuals interested in taking up a voluntary governance position with the Credit Union.

What is the Board Oversight Committee?

This committee oversees the work of the Board on behalf of our members. Our committee is made up of three volunteers. The Board Oversight Committee are responsible for overseeing the work of the Board of Directors in the areas of strategic plan delivery, maintenance of financial sustainability and the protection of member funds.

What does the Board Oversight Committee do?

Key duties of the committee:

At least one member of the committee should attend each Board meeting as an observer.

The committee members should meet at least once a month to discuss the Boards performance.

The committee should have a meeting with the Board at least 4 times a year and present a report to the Board, highlighting areas where the Board, in their opinion, are not fully meeting their obligations.

Committee members have the right to attend all meetings of the Board and all meetings of other committees of the credit union.

The committee reports to the members at the AGM as to whether, in their view, the Board has complied with its obligations.

What are we looking for in a volunteer?

Volunteer positions with the credit union cannot be remunerated under legislation.

You must be a member of Enniscorthy Credit Union in order to volunteer.

Prior credit union/not for profit experience although not necessary but would be an advantage.

Willingness to volunteer for at least two to three years to serve on the Board Oversight committee.

The Board Oversight Committee requires a diverse range of skills, experience and knowledge to carry out their role. We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have some of the following expertise or experience to contribute: Financial Services, Strategy Planning, Financial Management, Marketing, Legal & Regulatory, Investment/Lending Practices, Corporate Finance, Human Resources or Business Development. While experience in one of these areas would be helpful, the main thing is that you would be willing to help in a voluntary capacity and represent the members of our Credit Union to the best of your ability.

What is the benefit of volunteering?

Members who volunteer will gain experience of corporate governance and how a large, member-based organisation operates. Volunteers may participate in our Education Programme, so that you can earn a transferable qualification while you serve.

How do I volunteer?

If you are interested in putting yourself forward for election to the Board Oversight Committee of the credit union please respond by email only to eileen.murphy@enniscorthycu.ie. Please include covering letter which outlines your experience and attach a copy of your CV. Closing date for applications is Friday December 11th.

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 government restrictions, at the time of writing, it is unclear when it will be possible to hold our next AGM and the format of that meeting. Applicants will be kept informed of developments in this regard throughout the process.
